Hospital Pharmacy

Roles & opportunities

Pharmacy kaimahi (staff) at Christchurch Hospitals are an integral part of the clinical team – working with health professionals and patients to promote best practice and safe use of medicines. It is not just about dispensing medicine.

Within the Christchurch metropolitan area we have four hospital-based pharmacies covering nearly all specialties.

Staff rotate around the pharmacies getting a wide clinical experience. Te Whatu Ora Waitaha has a strong focus on management and leadership and Pharmacy staff have all those amazing opportunities available to them.

We are committed to keeping our focus on the patient journey, and have even outsourced activities that have not added direct value to patient care.

If you want to part of a clinical team working toward successful patient outcomes. If you want to be part of international research and involved in the science behind the medicine. Then you have come to the right place.

What we're proud of

  • Our Script 4 Change project is revolutionizing pharmacy’s role in the patient journey by providing our clinical pharmacists and ward pharmacy technicians with the tools, knowledge and technology they need to provide pharmaceutical care to the highest possible standards.
  • Our team based clinical service is breaking new ground with enhanced collaboration and mentoring. We are well underway toward achieving the latest pharmacy goals as directed by the Ministry of Health.
  • We are part of the surge in technology developments like electronic medicines management, e-prescribing and electronic sharing of information between hospital and community providers.
