Lisa's Story

Want a role that counts?

Not many accountants (or any corporate and support role for that matter) can say they spend their days saving lives, but Lisa can. After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce, Lisa worked in auditing and then in manufacturing, before finding her home in healthcare.

With her finance background, Lisa could work for whoever she wanted, but she chose to be the Finance Manager for Corporate Services. The critical nature of her role makes her feel like every day counts. In finance accuracy is important, to save time and money and keep the customers happy, but for Lisa and the people who work in the CDHB finance teams, accuracy can mean life and death. If an urgent pharmaceutical order is not approved and paid on time, the consequences are life changing, literally.

All organisations work to tight budgets, if they want to spend more, they have to earn more, but in healthcare there is no more to be earned. How far the finance team can make the money stretch does not just equate to dollars and cents, but to lives and families.

The motivation Lisa has to get out of bed in the morning, and the buzz she feels at the end of her working day comes from knowing her role counts. This is not just limited to our finance roles but applies to all corporate and support roles. Whatever your role at the CDHB you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are an integral part of a team, helping people, helping our community. Now that is good motivation to get out of bed in the morning.
