Ray's Story

Serious Work // Serious Fun.

You would think that an earthquake would make Christchurch a serious city, and although it has produced serious work, it has also created serious fun. Rebuilding a city is hard work, but the incredible challenges also bring unprecedented opportunity for innovation and growth.

Ray and his family moved to Christchurch in 2012 and have discovered the serious work, serious fun culture not just of Christchurch but also here at the CDHB. Many years of researching the best places to live led them to Christchurch with the desire for greater opportunities and a better quality of life. As an experienced project manager he knew he would be able to help Christchurch rebuild itself for a greater future, but he never considered he would do this by helping to transform our health system into one of the very top health care systems in the world.

Ray works for our Information Services Group, managing projects that are right at the leading edge of healthcare innovation. He doesn’t hold a scalpel but knows that every day he contributes not only to building Christchurch’s future, but also to the lives of individual patients, providing him satisfaction on so many levels. While this may seem like serious work, and it is, he loves the sense of fun and camaraderie that is part of what makes the CDHB what it is.

When he is not having fun improving health care and rebuilding a city, Ray and his family enjoy the beauty and vitality of Christchurch and the Canterbury District. “It is the essence of what we thought New Zealand would be. There is something about it that is just hard to put into words.”
