Selwyn & Waimakairi

The Selwyn and Waimakariri districts are predominantly rural districts right on the doorstep of Christchurch city, one to the South and one to the North. They combine farm land, vineyards and quaint towns, each with their own character and attractions. Many people will live in the Selwyn or Waimakiriri districts and commute into Christchurch for work, enjoying the open spaces, cheaper living and fresh feel of life in the country while making the most of working in the city.

Selwyn District is home to six ski fields, a variety of vineyards and delightful boutique shops with locally made cheese merchants and berry farms providing the perfect place to relax and spend the afternoon.Selwyn is also home to one of New Zealand’s top Universities, specialising in agriculture and viticulture.

The CDHB has hospital facilities spread throughout Selwyn in Lincoln, Darfield and Leeston.

The Waimakariri District is named after the Waimakariri River which flows from the Southern Alps to the sea and is a popular place for boating and swimming. The surrounding scenery makes a beautiful place for horse trekking or just absorbing the sun. Pegasus is a brand new town with an international level golf course and Oxford is home to Jo Seagars cafe and cooking school.
