Ward Clerk Christchurch Women’s Hospital, Maternity
I was born in Wellington. I come from a family of 7. My mother, father, my pepi Jessie (17), My brother, sister in-law and nephew (6 months).
My iwi is from Tuahuriri (Tuahiwi). I love spending time with whanau and friends and being out and about enjoying our land and learning about our whakapapa.
I am an ex air force kid and we got moved around a lot until I was 7. We finally settled here in Ōtautahi (Christchurch) and I love it.
Growing up I always had in the back of my mind the idea of helping people (like becoming a nurse) or a veterinarian.
I love people and animals and am always putting others and animals before myself.
I had the hope in one day of working for Te Whatu Ora somewhere and I finally made it!
I have had ups and downs over the years but I did the mahi (work) of studying certificates in a lot of things including Medical Administration, Medical Reception and Business Administration and I am finally in a place I feel safe and happy.
I have always wanted to help people and I felt that Te Whatu Ora was the place to try.
What also attracted me was the fact that they were wanting to help more Māori and Pasifika into work and that attracted me even more.
I like the fact that they are wanting to help more Māori and Pasifika in even more ways now and the staff have all been very helpful in helping us to get to know the visions of the future and wanting to help us get there.
I love living and working in Ōtautahi as everything is so close that it doesn’t take long to get from A to B. Being close to my Whānau (family) always makes the difference.
I would recommend the Te Whatu Ora as definitely it’s a place to be!
