Every day I am reminded why I love being an audiologist. It is such a rewarding career, knowing that you can change people's lives!

"Helping people - improving their quality of life - i've never thought I don't want to go to work today"

Gurjoat Vraich - Charge Audiologist CHCH Hospital

“This is a great place to work” he says. We are a small and friendly team who are enthusiastic and want to do things the best way we can. Work-life balance is important to us – some of our people work part time around family commitments or around private practice.

The audiology team is well placed right next to ENT, meaning better coordination with Consultants and improved patient outcomes.

Working in the hospital setting you get to see more challenging cases and more variety, as you are working with children and adults. If you are up for the challenge of complex cases, keeping up with constantly changing technology and gaining an incredibly broad experience – then Christchurch Hospital is the place for you.

We provide a wide range of audiological services including electrophysiological testing, newborn diagnostic hearing tests and testing for balance disorders. We have a close association with the University of Canterbury and some of our Audiologists are involved in ongoing research.

To become an audiologist you have to complete a two year intensive Masters programme which is competitive. The profession attracts really smart people and New Zealand audiologists have a very good reputation in the world.

This reputation along with the broad experience you gain in a hospital setting gives our people a good base to leap off – a great springboard for other experiences. It is truly an international qualification.
