Registered Nurse in the Paediatric Operating Theatres in Christchurch Hospital/ Waipapa

"I always wanted to help people in need. I always thought being a nurse would be pretty cool."

A brief mihi about yourself

I was born and raised in Motueka, just outside of Nelson. I am 21 years old and graduated at 20 years old with a nursing degree. I moved to Christchurch in January 2021 to start my new role at the CDHB. I love to spend time with friends and family, enjoy adventures such as beach trips, camping and fishing with my whanau.

Growing up what did you want to do for a job and did you ever see yourself working at Te Whatu Ora?

I always wanted to help people in need. I always thought being a nurse would be pretty cool. Throughout high school, I worked as Health Care assistant for local rest-homes in Motueka which made me have more of appreciation for nurses. I never knew where or what type of nursing I wanted to do until my last year of study! Thankfully ended up in CDHB with the job I wanted.

What was your journey of getting to work at Te Whatu Ora?

Finished high school at Motueka High School and studied at NMIT for a Bachelors of Nursing degree. In my last year of my degree, I was placed within Nelson Hospital Operating Theatres, where I realised I wanted to be an Operating Theatre nurse and move to Christchurch. I was thankful to gain a job in the Christchurch Operating Theatres after I graduated in 2021.
