Vision & Hearing Technician
Hearing and Vision testers visit pre-school, primary and intermediate schools on a regular basis to carry out screening tests on all Canterbury children. These tests are important to identify hearing problems and vision problems requiring further assessment and/or treatment.
You don’t have to be a health professional, but you do need to like children and be flexible and creative enough to give children the opportunity to be themselves while providing a vital service.
There is plenty of on the job support to complete the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Vision and Hearing Screening).
During the course you will learn skills and knowledge relating to hearing impairment; the visual system and visual impairments; undertaking audiometry, tympanometry, and vision screening tests; applying Maori values; recognising indicators of abuse; applying communication process theory; and infection control.
