Anna Skinner (she/her)

Operating Theatre Assistant - Christchurch Hospital

"The amazing work that everybody does within the perioperative team given time pressures and the sheer demand for surgeries in a public health system is quite incredible"

A brief mihi/introduction about yourself

Originally from Auckland, I have lived in Christchurch for the last 22 years and am a parent of three beautiful children. I would describe myself as having an outgoing personality who is kind and passionate. In my spare time I love to ride my bicycle, write and sip coffee at my favourite cafes.

Growing up what did want to do for a job and did you ever see yourself working at Te Whatu Ora?

To be honest I didn't have a firm idea of what I wanted to do! My working life has been varied and interesting to say the least. What has become more evident over the last few years is my desire to help people using the life skills I have acquired along the way.

What was your journey of getting to work at Te Whatu Ora?

My working life now spans 40 years! In that time I have done a stint in the military, worked in the aviation industry and latterly the health sector. For me it was a natural progression to work within the hospital environment where I could utilise my strong communication skills, coupled with my kind and caring nature to help the people of Canterbury.

What attracted you to work at Te Whatu Ora?

I've worked in large organisations before. Te Whatu Ora provides job stability, good conditions and the opportunity to move within the organisation to take on different roles.

What’s something you enjoy about being part of Te Whatu Ora?

I enjoy being part of a very specific area of the hospital system which is Theatre. The amazing work that everybody does within the perioperative team given time pressures and the sheer demand for surgeries in a public health system is quite incredible.

What do you love about living and working in Ōtautahi/Christchurch?

Christchurch has been kind to me over the years. I have achieved a lot whilst I've lived here and it's pretty much flat as a pancake which is perfect for cycling !!

What advice do you have for someone contemplating a career at Te Whatu Ora?

My advice would be to anyone looking to work for Te Whatu Ora to come in with an open mind and be themselves! The organisation provides opportunities for a huge range of professions within the health sector and will support you in want you have to offer and want to achieve.
